Kids in the Game is dedicated to developing New York City’s youth by providing opportunities
through sports and fitness to the schools and communities we serve. Our goal is to develop the
next generation of leaders by developing healthy habits, an active lifestyle, and promoting
personal growth through play and competition.
During the school year, KING is rooted in dozens of schools around New York City, offering
recess, after-school, physical education, early drop off fitness, and sports instruction. In addition,
KING operates summer camps, sports clinics (basketball, soccer, volleyball), and special events. 

Volleyball Coach

Position Description/Core Responsibilities:

1. Middle School Volleyball Coach
Kids in the Game (KING) is seeking a middle school volleyball coach for the 2017-2018
school year. Ideally must be available afternoons, evenings and occasional Saturdays.
Prior coaching experience is required playing experience is preferred. Coaches will be
working with players of all abilities and must be able to be a positive, engaged leader for
the youth they work with.
2. KING Spikes (Private, Club Volleyball)
KING Spikes is seeking assistant and head coaches for the winter/spring 2017-18 club
season. Must be available evenings and weekends. Prior coaching experience is highly
preferred; playing experience also a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities included but are not limited to:
1. Organizing, managing and supervising all volleyball activities such as individual practices,
training sessions, scrimmages and tournaments.
2. Developing lesson plans for team practices and competition.
3. Motivate and train the players, as well as assesses player’s skills and assigns team
positions to determine the needs for individual and team improvements.   
4. Must have full knowledge of the following and be able to instruct a 4-2, 5-1 and 6-2.
5. The head coach must established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and
requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
6. Constant communication with parents and guardians regarding scheduling conflicts,
eligibility forms, emergency records, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other
related records.
7. Head coach must have all release consent forms through KING and GEVA at all times
(including tournaments).
8. Assigns duties to an assistant coach as necessary.

 Must have CPR/First Aid certification or able to obtain it
 Be a member of GEVA (ideal, but not required)
 Renewed IMPACT and Safe Training Certification (ideal but not required)            
 Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year university; advanced degree a plus
 Former college athlete and/or current coach preferred, but not required
 3+ years’ experience working with children; experience managing a team a plus
 Bilingual is preferred, but not required
 Demonstrated experience leading groups of children with the ability to engage and
inspire youth
 Experience managing a team
 Ability to communicate effectively to senior staff and administrations at schools
 Experience interacting with diverse communities
 Knowledge of computer and internet based programs for use in communication
 Strong interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written
 Ability to network with area coaches and families to form partnerships and recruit players
for competitive teams
 Ability to work in an organized yet flexible manner – team spends time around the city on
a daily basis

Compensation and Benefits:
 Competitive season stipend or hourly rate
 Ability to grow into full-time position
